Nvidia Expands AI Footprint in Vietnam
Nvidia is planting new AI roots in Vietnam. Nvidia's ($NVDA) CEO, Jensen Huang, gave the green light to launch an artificial intelligence R&D center in Vietnam, strengthening its presence in Southeast Asia. Vietnam's Investment Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said the hub, along with a Viettel Group data center, will help develop advanced AI in the country. Nvidia is also acquiring Vingroup's AI unit, VinBrain, which is positioned as "the starting point of a major future design center," according to Huang.

Vietnam aims for an annual revenue of over $100 billion from the semiconductor industry by 2050.
Southeast Asian countries compete for investments in data centers, with Damac Group planning to invest $3 billion to build them in the region.

American Air Lifts Profit Forecast Amid Holiday Surge
Travelers booked their holiday flights; investors saw their position take flight. American Airlines ($AAL) raised its fourth-quarter profit forecast, citing stronger holiday demand and higher fares. The airline carrier now expects adjusted earnings of 55 to 75 cents per share, up from a previous forecast not exceeding 50 cents and topping analyst estimates of 40 cents. The company's shares went up by 17% on Thursday after the news, its most significant jump since early 2021. Rivals Southwest ($LUV) and JetBlue ($JBLU) also boosted their outlooks following record Thanksgiving numbers.
